It's the Culmination of E Week!!

This is E receiving her award.  The entire rest of the time she was behind the podium, speaking.  See that girl on the right hand side of the photo?  Accepted to the Naval Academy.  Wow!

I did not notice when I took this that the Colonel's eyes were closed.  OOPS!!!

 

Anyway, E planned this whole ceremony and announced all the speakers and read their background and the background of the award, and the background of the award recipients.  We were delighted with the job she did.  Go, E!!

She is a smiley one.  This is a recreation since I couldn't get anywhere near this close during the ceremony.  That's her new medal under her left hand.  It's the MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) award.  I grew up seeing that logo in my house since I think my dad was a life member of something.  Weird, huh?

In other news, C is in Nashville until Sunday for a chorus competition, or performance..something like that.  I wasn't 100% clear on the details.  P is going to try her day out on crutches tomorrow.  I will be keeping the phone close by just in case.  B is at a DJ Party, whatever that is.  It's at the University.  By the way, P was happy that it was E week.  I think it was pretty much P month and not in a good way, so she was relieved about this development...

Me?  I am looking forward to a solid night of SLEEP.  Sleep.   Yay.  I had an emergency last night and had to go to the office at 2:30 AM.  That never happens.  Then other stuff happened and ultimately I didn't get home until 3:30.  Hopefully all will be still and quiet this evening.  I was pretty cranky about having to go in there last night (or this morning).  A repeat would be...unpleasant.  Wish me luck!

E Week Continues

Yesterday was the track meet.  I really need a different lens to capture interesting photos of this stuff, but here are a few that I managed to get:

There goes that little ponytail, bouncy bounce.  I like her running costume, don't you?  That Under Armour crap is expensive for something that looks like John Travolta would have worn it under his duds in Saturday Night Fever.  It feels very...polyesteresque.  However, it's apparently very popular because all we could find was the top-the coach gave her the bottoms.

And here she is, after it ended (she beat her best time this season by one minute, so yay!):

I really doubt you or I would look this cute after we ran two miles, don't you?  Well, IF we could run two miles..

In other news, E's grandfather came through his surgery just fine this morning, yay!!!!!  We want him to have a smooth, easy recovery so we can come over and harass him very soon.

Today's E excitement included a trip to the dentist.  No cavities and an excellent brushing report, yay!  Tomorrow's installment will feature the aforementioned awards ceremony, which will take place far too early in the morning for someone who works until 2 AM but that's OK.  She apparently had to plan and orchestrate the entire ceremony and will be doing a lot of the speaking.  Well.  It is E week, after all.

It's a definite streak

Three days in a row!  It's 7:21 am Central time, and I am watching the girlies scurry toward and out the door.  Apparently I was done sleeping by around 5:30 this morning, so I got up.  I will regret this later tonight, when I realize it's after midnight and I still have to be productive until 2:00 a.m.   However, what's done is done.

Know what else is done? My mom's taxes.  Yup, I just did them.  I hadn't even finished my morning caffeinated beaverage, and they are done.  Since it was on my list for yesterday, that does not feel particularly virtuous.  I think I am going to go ahead and file an extension for ours today because I realized this morning that my husband still needs to provide some information in order to max out our deductions.  Woohoo!  Boring talk!  The other thing I really should have done yesterday was my part-time thing, so I am going to scurry upstairs and get that done too, before anyone notices.  Actually they told me not to come back until today, so it's not even really behind except that I should have done it yesterday even if I was going to wait to deliver it until today.  Probably about 2 hours' worth.  E has a track meet today.  I have never seen a track meet before, I don't think.  Well, in movies.  Track meets seem to be featured in movies quite often, especially teen movies.   Then she has an awards ceremony on Thursday, so this week is probably going to need to be renamed E Week.  I should post a photo of E in honor of E Week.  Let's see what I have...

Here's one of E and C at the neighbors' Easter Egg Hunt.  It was quite the occasion.

Here she is in a group shot after the hunt.  All the eggs were filled with little slips of paper.  Then, after it was over, the children brought the slips of paper to the ladies who filled the eggs, and claimed their prizes.  It was pretty cool.  I think I want to get in on that next year.  It looked like the cool gig to have!

This is Morris.  He's "supposed to be dead."  I think that means he was given a death sentence by the vet a year or two ago.  He seems to have traded in one of his lives in order to extend things.  He has the loudest purr in the history of purring.  He also would grab your hand when you thought you were done petting him and redirect it to a part of his little head he felt needed more scratching. 

That's it for the Tuesday edition.  What if I keep this up all week?  Then it will move from a streak to a trend!

What I've done so far today:

• Worked for a while.
• Surfed the internet.
• Got caught up on some of my favorite blogs like this one and this one--seriously cute little girl and lots of kitties milling about usually and this one--say a prayer, her husband has been away at a dangerous deployment for a long time now.
• Sorted buttons by color into my new Ikea jars.
• Had about 4 Diet Cokes (which I no longer buy by the 12-pack or 18-pack, but someone around here sure did...).
• Fluffed up some of the stuff on the desk in my studio.
• Looked out the window a lot.
• Played with the kitties.

What I should have been doing so far today:

• Working for a while (hey, I did that, yay).
• My mom's taxes.
• My part-time gig.
• Our own taxes.
• Mopping the floors.
• Cleaning the bathroom upstairs.

Thinking about finishing up the novel that's somewhere on the landscape of my giant bed, too.  Guess which list that's on? Know what I'm going to do later on today/tonight?  WATCH TV.  Yup, that's right.  The only TV I have really watched in the last week is Lost and 24.  Maybe a few minutes of Wife Swap and Monk.  I tell ya.  I have been busy.  We all have.

I have some more Easter photos, like the photos from the rockin' little Easter Egg hunt at the next-door neighbors' house (they are really nice), but that would require me getting up from my cozy little perch and that seems inadvisable.  But hey, at least I blogged two days in a row.  It's going to be a streak soon.  I just know it.

We are so happy they came to visit!  Well, not the one on the right...she lives here :)  See how Toonces went right for her?  But it is the girl on the left who pays him the most attention.  Silly kitty!

I have just a few minutes for an update

It's been pretty busy around here, what with broken Paigey and one-eyed Leo, not to mention trying to coordinate all of our schedules. I did manage to get my card swap done and I can pick up my little bag-o-cards today (but might not have time).  Today is my last day at the office for a while. I think I fill in for my boss for a week at the end of this month but hopefully I will be staying put in my messy but comfy home office until then.  I think I mentioned I have been training someone new; that went well and she is ready to go, I think (I hope!).  We have one more position open, so I probably have another several-week stint at the office sometime in the near future.

We had to get a wheelchair for Paigey.  She tried the crutches but it's just too much all day at school. She's been accidentally knocked into a couple of times, and her poor friend has to carry her backpack for her, which must weigh at least 30 pounds.  She doesn't even have a cast on her leg yet, for heaven's sake--just a splint. The cast comes next week, after she gets the staples removed. It's just absolutely too physically exhausting for her.  I told the doc's office that she could use crutches everywhere else except for school.  Today is our first day with the wheelchair situation.  Hope it goes OK. I had to use all of my powers of persuasion to get the wheelchair.  Then I get the prescription and they put all these diagnoses on it that make it sound like a no-brainer that she needs one.  Well, duh!  That's what I was trying to tell them!!

I would get you a photo of my little one-eyed kitty, Leo, but he's still sort of rough looking.  I have to take him to the vet tomorrow to get his stitches out.  He seems very content and completely back to normal.  Except when we give him his medicine twice a day. He really objects to that.  I have the scratches to prove it. Little stinker.

Today is a very exciting day around here because our little Austrian's parents and sister are arriving at the Nashville airport late this afternoon!!  They will be here for a bit more than a week to visit and check out things here in the Southeast.  I think they are all going to Florida next week.  Better them than me--except there is a person or two I would love to visit (hi, C!). 

OK, it's 8:05 and I have to get ready for my Big Thursday. I am very much looking forward to my Small Friday.  And hopefully an even Smaller Saturday!
