Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas
I think I've posted about this project a few times already, but I figured I would post a link to the project and tell you a little more about it. It's a way to reflect on the Christmas season and record your photos/thoughts/memories. Each day, Shimelle emails you a prompt with a suggestion for what to journal about that day. You can do it in any number of ways. It can be a more traditional (modern) scrapbook with photos and journaling, or you can just do a photojournalistic style with minimal writing. You can also choose to focus on just the journaling itself. It's up to you. Some of the questions in years past have focused on such topics as weather, good/bad Christmas memories, and a "Dear Santa" letter. Obviously the project is completely customizable to your family and interests. Once you sign up for the class, it's free every year thereafter. I think this is the third or fourth year Shimelle has offered the class. There is also a forum where the students share photos of their works-in-progress and ideas. Check it out and see if it's something that will work for you this year! This year will be my first year. I am going to try to post pages in progress here on the blog.
We are hot and heavy into Thanksgiving prep here in my house on the hill. The boys (my fabulous husband and his brother) are making stuff for tomorrow. The turkey is brined...or is that brining? It's still in the briny bath, so whatever form that takes for its present state of being.
I am off to work soon (eww). Last night I worked very late, probably until 1:30 or so. On the drive home, I passed by Kroger and thought to myself, "Self, you really should do your Thanksgiving Day shopping now, because by tomorrow that place will be crawling with crabby humanity." However, being out and about in a dark deserted parking lot didn't seem too smart, so I kept driving. Then I arrived home, only to find Steve still awake. I said, "Are you awake? Like, AWAKE awake? Yes? Wanna go to the store and get the Thanksgiving stuff?" Turned out, he did. We had the entire store to ourselves other than the stockers and the giant pallets of stuff all over the place...until the inebriated young flatulent man with the bag of limes marched smartly up to check out. He seemed rather baffled that there was someone in front of him checking out. It was a relief to see a taxi pulled up in front of the store when we got to the parking lot. Sure enough, out he came with his bag of limes, stumbling and grinning like the fool he so obviously was. Smart enough to know he needed a taxi, though. Gotta appreciate that. I hope his lime-infested party went well and that he got all that gas out of his system before offending his party guests. Lord have mercy.
Yeah, it was a late night for me. I think I finally wound down at 4:30 a.m. or so. I never, ever do that but it all worked out somehow. We have a houseful of groceries, preparations are well underway, and the menu is written down and being used as a game plan this afternoon.
I got my card swap back this afternoon--the cards are CUTE!!!! I am very impressed this time around. Not a bad apple in the whole bunch. OK, maybe one but that's just because the stamped greeting smeared. I think I can cover it up with something else and it will be completely salvageable. I will try to post photos later on. Very impressive--you guys are all going to be jealous. Well, perhaps not all of you. I know some of you read this thing and your eyes glaze over at the paper crafty/scrapbooking stuff. But the rest of you--just get ready!
Happy Thanksgiving, if I don't make it back here tomorrow (but I probably will). Be safe. Count your blessings. Stay away from the limes...
